Congratulations to Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts, who announced yesterday that they’ve been awarded a substantial National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England….
This is amazing news for everyone in Devizes, on the day of their carnival, which in recent years required Devizes Town Council to subside it after years of Arts Council cuts prevented DOCA’s most elaborate free events from going ahead.
Could we see a return of the beloved street festival? DOCA say they will launch ‘A Season of Discovery,’ a brand-new summer and autumn programme of festivals, live music, workshops and performance across Devizes and the surrounding area.
When I think back over the years at all the fantastic events DOCA has produced for us, this news gives me hope we can recapture the spirit of them once more. Carnival, today, tomorrow, who knows?!
