Loser to Loser; George Wilding’s New Single

Second single of 2026 from local legend George Wilding, Loser to Loser is a grower which carries a delightful punch…if any type of punch could be deemed delightful, this is probably it!

There’s something breezily contented indie-pop about George’s recent releases with more commercial viability, rather than the often whimsically lost or dejected characters of his early works. I’m tempted to reach more to bands like The Boo Radleys or Deacon Blue for a comparison than The Velvet Underground.

Although there’s something broken in the relationship in Loser to Loser, where past characters might let it get them down, they seem to face up to realities gratified, or at least nonchalantly. Perhaps to match with the catchy hook and lively ambience. George declares in the song, a system of an accusation designed to confuse and amuse you.

It kicks off with an electric guitar riff like an eighties power-pop anthem, but an “ooh-ooh” vocable breathing something more doo-wop or Motown, but whether George ventures for hints of quirky or experimental hidden details, it’s incomparable and unmistakenly George Wilding; a cracking single!
