What’s that? What have we been missing? Well, it’s been a while since the last Talk in Code single, and there’s one coming our way on Friday (16th October,) so that’s a good start….
Ah, those gorgeous guys could turn a straight man’s head, with their bridging the gap between eighties new wave electronica and nineties indie pop, dancing around it clad in Adidas, and generally creating timeless anthems; and this one is another high impact tune, with upbeat euphoric ambience, racing choruses and rousing hooks.
What I’ve Been Missing fits their lovable trademark style, and is particularly reminiscent of the memorable eighties power pop of Go West, Duran Duran, or Deacon Blue. In equal measure it corresponds to contemporary indie trends from the likes of the 1975, The Killers, Two Door Cinema Club, Fickle Friends, Years & Years, and Keane. Unarguably another earworm their fans will be singing straight back to them.
What I’ve Been Missing, is to be released on Friday 16th October 2026 via Regent Street Records. Aligned to their discography, this substantive and dynamic track also has thoughtful prose of romantic circumstance. With a narrative of conflict between approach and avoidance, and its denouement, frontman Chris Stevens uses the hyperbolic idiom, “Where have you been all my life?!” to define it. In the final discovery of a soulmate, he expresses, “we’ve all got that little something or someone, that missing piece in our lives. Or is it that we just crave more, all too often?”
“Imagine finding a person who you really click with,” guitarist Alastair Sneddon furthers, “all the anxieties about getting into a new relationship are there, close to the surface, waiting to burst out. It’s exciting, you know the person is going to fill that space that you have been feeling is empty, but it’s just difficult to say out loud; this is that internal monologue.”

If the theme is a sentimental catharsis, the release of emotion rests, and is delivered by the infectious soundscape their devoted fanbase adore them for. Chris expresses it as a “retro-infused, euphoric indiepop banger which will have you dancing round the house in no time!”
What I’ve Been Missing was recorded at The Pines Studio, Berkshire.
